The Cognitia Organization (TCO) is a specialized provider of Certified Peer Support Services (CPSS) serving individuals and families across the Alliance service area. The agency was established to deliver structured peer support as a focused service rather than as a secondary component within larger behavioral health programs.
Many individuals navigating complex life circumstances—such as family disruption, justice involvement, or significant life transitions—require consistent guidance, practical support, and informed peer perspective. TCO was developed to meet that need through trained peer specialists who provide structured, goal-oriented support.
TCO operates as a dedicated CPSS agency, allowing the organization to maintain clear service standards, consistent training, and a specialized approach to peer engagement.
In many service environments, peer support is offered as an additional program alongside clinical treatment services. While valuable, this model often limits the depth and structure of peer engagement.
TCO was designed to take a different approach.
By focusing exclusively on Certified Peer Support Services, the organization is able to:
• Maintain a consistent service model
• Provide specialized staff training
• Deliver structured peer support rather than informal conversation
• Maintain clear service expectations and boundaries
• Focus on populations that benefit most from guided peer engagement
This focused approach allows TCO to deliver peer support with the level of structure and accountability required for individuals navigating complex environments and life transitions.
TCO provides peer support through structured engagement that helps individuals strengthen stability, decision-making, and daily functioning.
Services may include:
• Individual peer support sessions
• Structured peer support groups
• Support during life transitions and stabilization periods
• System navigation and coordination with existing services
• Skill development related to daily structure and personal stability
Peer support at TCO is designed to complement—not replace—clinical services, case management, or other formal systems of care.
All Certified Peer Support Specialists working with TCO receive training that emphasizes structured peer engagement and professional service delivery.
Staff preparation includes training in:
• Certified Peer Support Service standards
• ethical and professional peer support practices
• documentation and service coordination
• stabilization support during periods of transition
• community resource navigation
• structured engagement tools used within the organization
This preparation ensures that peer support services remain organized, consistent, and aligned with Medicaid service expectations.
In addition to standard Certified Peer Support Specialist preparation, staff at The Cognitia Organization receive additional training related to the populations served by the agency.
This training prepares Peer Support Specialists to work effectively with individuals and families navigating complex life circumstances and system involvement.
Specialized population training may include areas such as:
• domestic violence and family safety environments
• justice system involvement and community reintegration
• kinship and grandparent-led households
• youth navigating school or family instability
• young adults transitioning from foster care
• veterans and military family transitions
• families affected by incarceration
This preparation allows peer support services to remain structured, appropriate, and responsive to the environments in which participants are navigating stability and change.
TCO staff utilize structured engagement tools to guide peer support sessions and maintain consistency across services.
One of these tools is the Peer Companion, which helps organize peer discussions, support planning, and skill development during services. The Companion framework provides a structured approach that assists both staff and participants in maintaining focus, tracking progress, and strengthening personal stability over time.
The Companion is used as a guidance tool within services, helping ensure peer support sessions remain organized, practical, and goal-oriented.
